Can Russell Wilson prove himself again, and Micah Parsons Expectations Sky High in 2022

austinkimbrough

Hey Guys! Welcome to the tenth edition of Random Thoughts with Austin Kimbrough. This week’s topics are can Russell Wilson prove himself again, and how the expectations for Micah Parsons are sky high this year. Enjoy!

Can Russell Wilson prove himself again?

Russell Wilson will soon be a Hall of Fame quarterback after throwing for over 37,000 yards and nearly 300 touchdowns in his ten years as a Seattle Seahawk. There is little argument over the impact Russell Wilson has had on the city of Seattle, and as a part of Seahawks. As we head into the 2022 season, Russell Wilson is starting a new journey and a clean slate with the Denver Broncos.

On paper, this Broncos offense looks dangerous, with receivers Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler, and Courtland Sutton, running backs Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon, tight ends Albert Okwuegbunam and Greg Dulcich as well as the best offensive line Russell Wilson has played behind in the last 5 years. All of the pieces are in place for Russell Wilson and this Broncos team to explode back onto the scene this year. After a “down” year last year in which Russ was not fully healthy, and rushed back from injury, I am interested to see how Wilson responds this season.

With Russell Wilson having what was considered by many a “down” year last year, he was ranked the eighth best quarterback headed into 2022 according to ESPN and number 61 in the NFL’s top 100 list. It is on Russell Wilson’s shoulders to prove he is still a top five quarterback this season. The Broncos are loaded with talent from top to bottom. This is a team that is built to compete for a Super Bowl. Whether or not that is achieved is up to Wilson. Russell Wilson’s tenure as the Broncos starting quarterback won’t be judged on regular season success and awards, it will be judged by playoff success and super bowls. The last time the Broncos made a splashy quarterback trade for a Hall of Fame quarterback, it was for Peyton Manning and all he did was lead them to two Super Bowls and won one. Can Russell Wilson follow in his footsteps and solidify his legacy?

Micah Parsons Expectations Sky High in 2022

When Micah Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys was named 2021 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year, expectations for the 2022 season were already high. Now that the season is less than two weeks away, the hype is through the roof! After racking up 84 tackles and 13 sacks his rookie season, Parsons looks poised to take on an even bigger role this season. Micah Parsons was one of three linebackers named in the top twenty of the NFL’s top 100 players heading into 2022 season. Indianapolis Colts Darius Shaquille Leonard was number eighteen, Micah Parsons checked in at sixteen, and Pittsburgh Steelers T.J. Watt was ranked as the sixth best player headed into 2022. While I don’t believe Parsons is currently better than Darius Leonard, it is certainly very high praise from his NFL peers that Parsons deserves to be ranked that highly after only one season. While Parsons will still be lined up at his official ‘Strong side’ Linebacker position, we will see him all over the field. Speed is Parson’s greatest ally and he utilizes it every chance he gets. Parsons has elite sideline to sideline speed and is already one of the more physical players in today’s game. His speed and physicality is what led the Cowboys to try him at edge rusher last season which ended up being a massive success as he was able to rush the passer and blitz from all over the field. What I love about Parson’s game so much is that he always stands out on tape. He is constantly making plays for this Dallas defense as a do it all defender who makes clutch plays and causes a lot of disruption. He is clearly the leader of the Dallas Cowboys defense heading into his second season, and they are expecting BIG things out of Micah Parsons in 2022.
